Remember

Tonight was beautiful. I hope you all went outside. That time of day I love so much...dusk. I was able to sit on my porch tonight, and feel the warm, still air. The sun slowing going down. My yard is overrun with weeds, and mess, but it seemed just right in this evening. This last Monday evening before school is out. The trees were dark....just silhouettes against the midnight blue sky. No stars. My friend the black neighbor cat greets me as is his usual custom these days.

Tonight was graduation. May is so nostalgic. Tied up in the season changing is life changes for so many. We leave school...maybe forever, and travel off into that great big world. Excited and afraid. Even the no air conditioning,a nd the fans blowing somehow create a sense of nostalgia...and a sense of experience. Someone will say ten years from now...Remember when we were seniors, and the last two weeks of school were miserable because their was no air-conditioning? Remember when all the seniors threw toilet paper onto the floor at the last assembly while screaming "We don't throw things at C-High school!" Remember when the pig peed on the gym floor? Remember when the nazi threw a flame-ball around the room? Remember?..There can be such joy in remembering. Those carefree days when the teacher deciding whether you are allowed to go to the bathroom or not can be a life and death situation. Part of what I like about being a teacher is being able to live vicariously through them. Regain and relive some of the joy of that life--the goodness. That teter totter that those hormonally imbalanced children ride as they try to decide who they are, and who they will become. Graduation gowns, smiles, crowds, screaming, laughter, emotions streched to every peak...every edge...Remember?
